Apple's September 9 Event Is Real. Most of What's Coming Still Isn't.
This is the morning-of rumor teaser — published before Apple talks so you have the calendar straight. Confirmed facts first. Rumors second, labeled. After the keynote, we update this same URL (same slug). We do not create a second post.
Apple has a date. Wednesday, September 9, 10 a.m. Pacific — 11 a.m. Mountain. The invite is “Surprise and shine.” Watch on apple.com, the Apple TV app, or YouTube.
Confirmed
These are locked before the keynote:
- Event time and tagline. Apple posted Surprise and shine and confirmed the slot in developer news on August 26: Wednesday, September 9, 10:00 a.m. Pacific / 11:00 a.m. Mountain.
- Where to watch. Apple’s site, YouTube, Apple TV app.
- CEO context. John Ternus’s first iPhone keynote as CEO after the September 1 leadership change. Cook is executive chairman. That is corporate fact, not a phone rumor.
- iOS 27 exists. The software was previewed at WWDC and is in public beta; the exact GM ship day usually lands on stage. Feature breakdown: Everything coming in iOS 27.
Nothing else on this page is confirmed until Apple says it live.
Rumored
Everything below is rumor / reporting consensus until it appears on Apple’s slides. Sources: BGR event roundup, MacRumors event announcement, MacRumors September guide, AppleInsider preview.
Phones (rumored)
- iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Expected to look close to last year’s Pros. Chip rumor: A20 Pro on 2nm. Other chatter: smaller Dynamic Island, battery gains, possible variable-aperture camera, dark cherry / light blue color talk. Specs stay rumored.
- A foldable iPhone. Book-style. Often called iPhone Ultra in coverage. Outer ~5.5-inch / inner ~7.6–7.8-inch displays in rumors. Rumored compromises: Touch ID instead of Face ID, dual rear cameras, no telephoto. Industry outlets have floated starting prices over about $2,000 — treat every dollar figure as a rumored industry estimate, not an Apple price.
- No regular iPhone 18 this fall. Base iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and Air 2 rumored for spring 2027. MacRumors is explicit; BGR’s skip/wait and aging pieces point at early 2027. Longer take: The base iPhone 18 isn’t coming this fall.
Wearables, audio, software timing (rumored / expected)
- Apple Watch Series 12 and Watch Ultra 4 — expected, thinner rumor stack than the phones.
- AirPods 5 — possible at this event per MacRumors.
- iOS 27 / iPadOS 27 / macOS Golden Gate / watchOS 27 release dates — usually announced at the iPhone event; calendar day still not confirmed until Apple says it.
Buy calendar (educated guessing, not Apple)
MacRumors notes Friday after the event is September 11. Past pattern when that date conflicts: pre-orders shift to Saturday, September 12, with a possible Friday, September 18 store date for Pros. Foldable supply may lag announcement — still rumor.
Smart-home hub / Apple TV / HomePod mini / OLED iPad mini may be this keynote or a later one. Don’t plan the week around maybes.
What this means in Salt Lake before Apple talks
If you were waiting for a cheap new base 18: the rumor says that wait runs into 2027. If you want a Pro or the rumored foldable: today is the announcement; availability is a separate question.
Industry timing for used phones (no CMYP prices): when new iPhones drop and best resale week before the keynote. Carrier bill-credit math: carrier trade-in promotions 2026.
We are owner-operated. Meetups by appointment in Salt Lake County — typically Fashion Place Mall or the Maverik in Bluffdale. We buy phones (cracked fine), iPads, Macs, GPUs, consoles, DJ, VR, cameras, and sealed unexpired diabetic supplies. No iCloud / Google / blacklist locked or stolen devices. No out-of-state ship-in.
