iOS 27 is not a rumor. Apple previewed it at WWDC 2026, put it in developer and public beta, and is widely expected to ship the final build in September alongside new iPhones. What is still fluid: the exact public release day, how fast some Apple Intelligence features roll out, and anything tied to hardware Apple hasn’t announced yet.

Confirmed: the big software story

These are features Apple has already demonstrated or that are documented in the current beta coverage — not wishlist items from leakers.

Siri AI and the Siri app

Apple rebuilt Siri around Apple Intelligence. Coverage describes personal-context search across your apps, onscreen awareness, broader web knowledge, and app actions (drafting mail, calendar changes, photo album work, and more). There is a dedicated Siri app for conversation history, with retention options reported in the beta (for example, limited-time vs longer retention).

You can type or speak; Search/Ask replaces the old Spotlight-style entry point on the iPhone. Write with Siri is systemwide for drafting and rewriting.

Hardware note (confirmed requirement, not a rumor): full Siri AI / Apple Intelligence needs an iPhone 15 Pro or later. Custom Siri voice / stronger on-device speech models are tied to newer Pro / Air-class chips in the current lineup per MacRumors’ compatibility notes.

Visual Intelligence in Camera

Visual Intelligence moves into a Siri mode in the Camera app (still reachable via Camera Control). Documented uses include identifying what’s in frame, nutritional insights, bill splitting (U.S.), importing events/contacts, and creating Wallet passes from physical cards/tickets.

Photos, Safari, Shortcuts, Wallet, and more

Phone: Call Context (surfaces on-device info like a confirmation from Mail when you call a business)
FaceTime: Dual Capture on supported recent iPhones (front + rear)
AirPods: custom EQ on H2 models; cleaner settings UI
Parental controls: redesigned Screen Time, Time Allowances, Ask to Browse, Communication Safety expanded beyond nudity

Design and Liquid Glass

iOS 27 continues Liquid Glass with a translucency slider in Settings so you can dial the effect up or down. Lock Screen gains compact clock and wallpaper Extend options.

Compatibility (confirmed list shape)

MacRumors lists iOS 27 as running on devices that support iOS 26 — iPhone 11 and later, including recent SE models — with Apple Intelligence gated to 15 Pro and newer. Always verify on Apple’s own compatibility page when the final build ships.

Still rumored / not fully locked

Label these carefully. They may be true; they are not the same as “Apple put it on a WWDC slide and it’s in the beta you can download.”

Exact public release date. Consensus is mid-September after the September 9 “Surprise and shine” event, often a few days after the keynote historically. Apple typically confirms the date on stage. Until then, “September” is the safe confirmed window; the calendar day is expected, not confirmed.
Siri AI waitlists / phased availability. Reporting has noted possible waitlists or staged rollout when the public build lands. Treat capacity limits as possible, not guaranteed for every account on day one.
Regional gaps. MacRumors notes Siri AI availability issues tied to EU Digital Markets Act discussions and China gaps. Confirm for your region at launch — don’t assume every feature ships everywhere on the same morning.
Foldable-specific UI. iOS 27 includes groundwork for a rumored book-style foldable. The phone itself is still a hardware rumor for the September event (MacRumors event guide). Software readiness ≠ device in hand.
iCloud+ gated Home camera AI. HomeKit Secure Video summaries and related Apple Intelligence Home features are documented as requiring higher iCloud+ tiers (MacRumors cites 2TB+). That’s a confirmed requirement in coverage, but your plan fit is personal.
Anything Apple cuts before GM. Betas change. Features can slip, rename, or ship later in a point release.
